「千の風」だけじゃない

アメリカの詩人メアリー・エリザベス・フライによって1932年に書かれた
世界的に有名な追悼の詩。
日本では、新井満氏が訳詞・作曲した「千の風になって」の原詩として広く知られている。

だが元の詩を読むとあの歌とはかなり違った感じを受ける。
歌は歌でそれなりに感動するものだけど、こちらのほうはもっと広いと思う。

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there.
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there.
I did not die.
